This is one of my favorites. I love the groove, and the build to the hook and the lyric. It didn’t change much from the demo I made in my basement studio in 2008 to the finished product on this album. The performances and mix got better for sure, but it’s ultra-recognizable from here to there.
About this lyric...it’s loosely based on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy that my wife and I watched that night. I was then and still am now working on getting some of these songs placed in film & TV and thought I’d reverse engineer a little. The title of the episode is the first line of the song. Which GA borrowed from a Sam Cooke song. Not sure if they still do this, o haven’t watched in years but the episode titles were always song titles. With all that though it could easily fall in to this cutesy, gimmicky kind of thing, but I think it works well as a song all on its own.
